The Taipei City Government’s 2026 Employee Family Day officially kicked off on August 7 at the atrium on the first floor of Taipei City Hall. Centered on the theme of artificial intelligence for the first time, this year’s event featured highlights from the 2026 Taipei Generative Art Festival, introducing employees and their families to the world of generative AI and digital art. Participants also experienced emerging sports technologies through an interactive smart sports mat challenge. In addition, 11 themed challenge booths offered families the opportunity to complete activities and redeem exciting prizes. A total of 371 families, comprising 1,072 participants, joined this year’s event. By bringing together technology, art, and family, the Taipei City Government hopes Employee Family Day will help bring its vision of a smart city into every home.

A Full Lineup of Performances Filled the Venue with Laughter

The festivities began with “AI Quiz Time!”, a live interactive quiz that introduced children and parents to generative AI and digital art through fun questions and a real-time leaderboard. This was followed by a delightful performance by children from the Non-profit Kindergarten for Children of Taipei City Government Staff, whose enthusiasm and innocence captivated the audience while proud parents eagerly captured these memorable moments on their phones. Next came the AI Challenge, an interactive sports experience that combined technology with active play, in which Mayor Wayne Chiang joined participants to take part in the fun. The event concluded with the Mayor thanking city employees for their dedication and hard work before posing for commemorative photos with them and their families. Smiles filled the camera frame, creating lasting memories and bringing the celebration to a warm and joyful close.

Experience the Creativity of AI at the Taipei Generative Art Festival

In support of Taipei’s vision of becoming a smart city, this year’s signature attraction was the 2026 Taipei Generative Art Festival-themed booth. Featuring information about the festival competition, introductory concepts of generative AI, and intellectual property awareness, the booth engaged families through prize-winning interactive quizzes that introduced the limitless creative possibilities of AI while promoting an understanding of copyright. Children and adults alike enjoyed an early taste of the creative potential of AI and digital art, showcasing Taipei’s vibrant strengths as both a smart city and a city of creativity.

Fun Challenge Booths for the Whole Family

In addition to the AI-themed attractions, this year’s Employee Family Day featured a variety of interactive challenge booths highlighting a wide range of city initiatives. Employees and their families visited each booth, completed fun activities together, collected stamps, and redeemed limited-edition prizes.

• Balloon Artist × Family Photo Booth: A balloon artist delighted children with an assortment of creative balloon sculptures and hands-on balloon-making demonstrations, inviting parents and children to join in the fun. Meanwhile, the family photo booth captured joyful moments together, turning every snapshot into a cherished memory.
• AI Challenge: Lights on an interactive smart sports mat illuminated randomly according to game instructions, challenging participants to step on each target before time ran out. The game tested coordination, agility, and quick reflexes, making it an exciting activity for both children and adults.
• Cloud Invoice × Tax Adventure: Families learned about Taiwan’s four-step cloud invoice initiative and local tax concepts through interactive games, helping both parents and children develop a better understanding of smart tax practices in an engaging and enjoyable way.
• Precision Toss × Lightning Kick Challenge: Through throwing and kicking games, participants put their speed, accuracy, and leg strength to the test while working together as a team. The activities encouraged parent-child interaction and created opportunities for learning, cooperation, and a sense of shared accomplishment.
• Walk Taipei × Whole Grain Challenge: Participants were encouraged to complete walking missions and upload their walking routes, promoting physical activity as part of everyday life. Community dietitians also led interactive games introducing the nutritional benefits of whole grains and practical ways to incorporate them into daily meals, helping families bring healthy habits home.
• New Metro Line Mission × Basketball Challenge: The eastern extension of the Tamsui-Xinyi Line is a key project in the ongoing expansion of Taipei’s metro network. Once completed, it will further enhance public transportation services for the eastern Xinyi District, major social welfare facilities, and surrounding neighborhoods. Centered on the theme “From Xiangshan to Guangci/Fengtian Temple,” the booth invited children and their parents to dribble basketballs, make shots, and complete teamwork challenges together. Through play, participants gained a better understanding of the significance of the new metro extension while experiencing the close connection between urban development and everyday life.

Where Technology Brings Families Together

From the laughter shared over balloon creations and family photos to hands-on experiences with AI and generative art, this year’s Employee Family Day offered not only the warmth and togetherness that families have come to expect, but an inspiring glimpse into the future as well. Parents often spend their workdays moving between meetings and paperwork, leaving children with little opportunity to see what their parents’ daily work entails. Through Employee Family Day, children were able to follow the same route their parents take into Taipei City Hall each day, giving them a more tangible understanding of their parents’ workplace and the value of their work. The Taipei City Government hopes this unique Employee Family Day will help children better appreciate the contributions of their parents while giving families the opportunity to experience how technology is transforming both everyday life and the city around them. Through these shared experiences, the vision of a smarter, more sustainable city can take root and continue to grow within every family.
